Yoga for Kids with Bibi

Bibi has been teaching children at 'be yoga' and several International Schools in Japan for many years years. The idea was an inspiration and supported by the heads of several well respected schools. Thank you Mynn, Dony, and Susan . . . to mention a few.

Childrens ages vary from 4 to 12 years old (and over).

Kids naturally imitate the things around them. In these class, Bibi introduces kids to yoga poses, which imitate animals, plants, heroes and objects in our natural environment. Think: tree, fish, mountain, butterfly, cobra, as well as teaching children about the history of yoga. Bibi also communicates with children and how they find ways to deal within this all too busy world, full of conflicting messages!

Hatha yoga builds strength, flexibility, balance and helps to focus the heart and mind. The poses stimulate, strengthen and stretch body and mind. Yoga helps children concentrate and bring a sense of balance and well being into their busy lives which all of us are all too often exposed to, plus they are very joyful when taught with patience, some firmness and perseverance (teaching is one of the most challenging and rewarding professions)!

Practicing yoga helps children with their imagination and flow of creativity. By staying physically and mentally agile, it gives children the foundation to become more self-assured, clear-thinking, sharing, caring and responsible people in this world. And we do need those! Note: Music in these classes, classical and various - I also let the children bring their music, really supports a meaning-full lesson.

Yoga and Art Sleep Overs

Occasionally Bibi runs kids yoga and art sleepovers to give children a chance to get to know each other better through the practice of yoga in the deeper meaning of the word. Yoga, 'India's greatest gift to mankind', is as much about being a healthy open minded individual as about living harmoniously and happily in and among community. It is about accepting each other regardless of caste, creed or religion, what might be understood as being truly globall. Sharing a vision of a future together as an 'extended family' is being fostered in these kids' classes.

For a few hours children are given a chance to explore and express their own physical, emotional and creative potentials through art, movement/yoga, visualization and storytelling and sharing a fun and quiet time without the hype and competition to which we're all too often exposed to in our world.

Place and times for sleepovers vary depending on availability of spaces and the number of children interested.

Teaching children from the heart is essential. Letting them speak from their heart and listening with a hearing ear is essential.

Listen!

Music, singing and dancing all contribute to a healthy being. When children asked me what yoga is, my reply was: "It's a bit like Indian ballet and it's one of the tools to help us understand, and more so feel, that we can live in peace together! Imagine!!!

Mahatma Gandhi was one of the truly devoted yoga practitioners of our recent century. His mantra/prayer is AHIMSA! Non Violence and correct conduct!
